About the Foundation

A quiet, consistent commitment to children's surgical care.

Daniel and Francine Scinto created this foundation in 2008 after spending decades supporting medical mission work. What began as a family endeavor is now a public charity supporting some of the most respected names in pediatric surgery worldwide.

Our story

From a kitchen table to clinics around the world.

The foundation began with a simple realization: many of the most effective pediatric surgical programs were also the most under-funded. Daniel, a longtime business owner, and Francine, a registered nurse, set out to back the people doing the work — not the people fundraising about it.

Today the foundation channels nearly all of its public support directly into programs led by PAPS (Pacific Association for Pediatric Surgeons) and a curated set of partner organizations operating in regions where pediatric surgical capacity is needed most.

What guides us

Four principles, repeated every year.

Children First

Every grant decision starts with the question — does this measurably improve a child's surgical outcome?

Multi-year Trust

We commit funds across multiple years so partner teams can plan, hire, and train without scrambling each season.

Practitioner Voice

We listen first to surgeons, nurses, and the families they serve — not consultants. Boots-on-the-ground knowledge sets our priorities.

Transparent Stewardship

Public donations are reported, audited, and directed to programs — never absorbed into administration.

The board

Volunteers, surgeons, and family.

Our board is composed of practicing pediatric surgeons, public-health professionals, and members of the Scinto family. None of us draw a salary from the foundation. We meet quarterly and review every grant request as a team.
